Greetings from the Common Ground for Africa!
The holiday season is here. Thanksgiving is days away and many are preparing to gather with family and friends to share a meal and give thanks for the blessings that surround us. Shortly after this, we'll head to the malls or browse the internet looking for the perfect gifts to give to our loved ones - gifts that are special and show our love and appreciation for the recipient. For many, this is a favorite time of year. But for some, the holidays can be difficult with complex family dynamics, gift buying that stresses the wallet, and a general distaste for the commercialism that now dominates the season. At the Common Ground for Africa (CGA), we understand and respect the complexities of this season.
We'd like to offer some ideas that may help you bring joy and purpose into this holiday season by placing some attention on children in Africa who live every day with the challenges of HIV/AIDS, drought and famine. The recent drought and famine in the Horn of Africa have had a big impact on some of our projects. In Kenya, there is the additional problem of one of the worst levels of inflation in recent history, with maize doubling in price, and quadrupling in the case of sugar. The impact this has had on a normal family is high, but again when you are faced with drought and famine, the impact is really felt. This is the case for several of our orphanages who are struggling to feed their children adequately, and who really need assistance.
How can you help?
As your celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday we invite you to give gifts of hope and joy. Hope for the children who benefit from the food, the seed and educational support provided Common Ground for Africa and joy for you as you give gifts that make a difference. In fact, you can give gifts in honor of someone else and double the joy by allowing the recipient to share your joy from giving. A gift of $ 5, $ 15, $25 will help us save children's lives.
