10.05: October 5th was another banner day for rock births. Steve Miller (1943), flying like an eagle, and Brian Johnson (1947), husky-voiced AC/DC frontman, are both celebrating birthdays today. Miller, the midnight toker, and Johnson, shakin' you all night long, continue, to this very day, rocking the lid off of every venue they decide to enter.
10.06: One of the lowest points ever in the history of music came on this day in 1976, when disco and the American record-buying public officially assaulted good taste and logic by making "Disco Duck" by Rick Dees a gold single, well on its way to becoming a platinum hit. Yes, you heard that right. "Disco Duck" sold over a million copies. What the hell?! If you've never heard this song and don't remember disco, you are truly blessed. If you do, we are very sorry for your pain.
10.07: Johnny Cougar, John Cougar Mellencamp, and John Mellencamp were all born on this day in 1951. Yes, they are all one in the same, three different sides of the same person, the embodiment of him who loves little pink houses, singing about Jack and Diane, and reminiscing about living in small towns. Joining Mr. Mellencamp for a birthday on this day, Thom Yorke, frontman of, arguably, one of the most esoterically popular rock bands, Radiohead, to ever grace a stage, crept into this world on this day in 1968.
10.07: Dark Side Of The Moon, one of Pink Floyd's many masterpieces, fell off the Billboard Hot 200 charts on this day in 1988. Don't feel too bad for the boys, though, because it'd been entrenched there for a little while. 741 weeks to be exact. Yeah, that's right. Dark Side Of The Moon spent a total of 14 years and 3 months on the charts! Holy crap!
10.09: Today is a double dose of Lennon. John (1940) and his son Sean (1975) were both born on this day. Imagine that. We miss John. Still. He'd be 69 today, but we can envision him still going strong, voicing his opinions like it seems no one else can, and making music that matters. Or maybe he'd have gone the way of so many others, performing oldies shows and being solely remembered for his past achievements. Somehow, we doubt that scenario, though. Happy birthday, John, wherever ye may be.
10.10: On this day in 1955, the first face of Van Halen, "Diamond Dave" David Lee Roth jumped into this world, running with the devil and getting hot for teacher. Man, what was either camp thinking when they broke up the Brothers Van Halen and Diamond Dave? Yeah, we don't know either. Not to dis Sammy Hagar, but, come on, there is no comparison in the Van Halen canon. And if you actually prefer Sammy over "Just a Gigolo" Dave as the frontman for Van Halen, then stop reading right now, go sit in the corner, and think about what you've done.
10.11: On this day in 1973, Elvis and Priscilla Presley parted ways. The couple divorced after six and a half years of marriage. Elvis' wandering hands and eyes were too much for Priscilla, who embarked on an affair of her own with her karate instructor, whom Elvis had encouraged her to take lessons from to fill her time. Oh, he filled her time alright. This, however, couldn't trump the numerous affairs Elvis himself had throughout the courtship of and marriage to Priscilla. They shared custody of Lisa-Marie, departed the courthouse arm-in-arm, shared a kiss, and went their separate ways.
