Hard Rock Cafe - Santo Domingo, joined the global efforts to Save The Planet by turning off their lights and screens for one hour.  A very special candle-light, live performance by Luichy Guzman helped create a special ambiance to support the cause.  ALL IS ONE.

03.28: Eric Clapton married Pattie Boyd on this day in 1979. Boyd was the ex-wife of Beatle, George Harrison. Wanna know why she was George's ex-wife? Clapton. He'd been infatuated with Pattie for years. Eric and George had been good friends for many years, writing and recording together, Eric playing on the amazing George tune "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" that was included on The Beatles White Album. Eric's band Derek and The Dominos backed-up George on his first, proper, amazing solo album, All Things Must Pass. Yeah, they were good mates, Eric and George. So, what does Eric do to show his friendship? He longs after George's wife, trying and failing to win her love. Clapton wrote "Layla," one of the biggest hits of his career, about his love for her. Derek and The Dominos entire first album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs came to be written under Clapton's cloud of unrequited affections, which also, after he realized she didn't want him, led to his depression and drug dependence (which, surprise surprise, continued even after Eric's love was requited). To be fair, it actually wasn't solely Clapton's influence that led to the break-up of George and Pattie's marriage, but it didn't help, either. They'd been drifting apart and she and he both had alleged affairs. Despite the awesomeness that is Clapton, though, it's still a messed up thing to lust after your mate's wife. Or is it just us?

Hard Rock supported the HOPE NORTH PING-PONG BALL, hosted by Susan Sarandon and Mary-Louise Parker last night, which featured musical guests Rufus Wainwright, Josh Ritter, Jesse Malin, Joseph Arthur, Martha Wainwright, Charlie Mars and Hope North Founder Okello Kelo Sam.  Hard Rock was also lucky enough to acquire a very special handmade Ugandan Harp that was played by Okello at the event.  Hope North is a fully accredited boarding school on a 40-acre campus in Uganda where over 200 escaped child soldiers, orphans, and refugees find a place to call home.  Visit hopenorth.org for more information or to make a donation.  ALL IS ONE.

03.21: On this day in 1994, Bruce Springsteen tasted Oscar fame. The Boss’ “Streets of Philadelphia” from the film Philadelphia won for Best Original Song. Great song. Great musician. Great guy. Give it a listen. Nuff said.

03.23: It's been a while since we celebrated the rocker/supermodel relationship and renewed our faith in the celebrity marriage system of "use 'em and lose 'em," but this day gives us reason to rejoice in this pastime once again. Well, it's not a pastime shared by all, per se, but almost a near-given in the world of rock 'n' roll. On this day in 1985 Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley (one of the oddest couplings in the history of coupling) tied the knot on a yacht and gave it a shot. Well, the "shot" lasted nine years, an eternity in rocker/model relationship years, and the blessed union birthed a daughter, Alexa Ray, who also carries that rare music gene. Nonetheless, the divorce, and the around-the-way reminder of that on this day, renews our faith in rockers and supermodels to stay true to form and "use 'em and lose 'em." Happy anniversary, Billy and Christie!

Hard Rockers around the Globe responded immediately with words of support and concern for our Hard Rock Family and long time Partner, WDI, as well as for the people of Japan, a true testament to our team's commitment to LOVE ALL - SERVE ALL. We now have the opportunity to show the incredible positive impact we can make through our collaborative actions to bring that motto to life, by giving generously to the cause - for some that may be the financial equivalent the cost of a meal, a cup of coffee or perhaps even a day’s salary.

Together, we are doing what we can to help Japan's recovery by providing much needed funds to offer first aid, shelter and emotional support to those affected by this disaster.

Thank you in advance for your generous donation and making the world a better place - one donation at a time!

ALL IS ONE.

Because he's cool like that, Michael Franti recently stopped by Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood Blvd. for an intimate set for 50 very (very) lucky VIP winners from MyFM radio. Franti is the man, and always a consuamte showman, inviting people up on stage to dance, chatting it up with the crowd, making everyone feel welcome and awesome. Yep, we dig him. If you don't know his music, you've gotta check it out. If you do know his music, then you know why we're so head over heels for him. A beautiful sound, from rock to reggae to hip-hop to roots music, this guy will take you on a journey. Believe it.

Hard Rock was in the house at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame's 27th Induction ceremony in NYC.  Inductees included Alice Cooper (inducted by Rob Zombie), Darlene Love (introduced with an almost "stand up" comedy routine from Bette Midler), Dr. John (John Legend), Leon Russell (who had a very moving intro from Elton John), Tom Waits (who was inducted by Neil Young) and Neil Diamond (inducted by Paul Simon).  Make sure to youtube the un-censored version of Neil's acceptance speech - he'd give Tony Soprano a run for his money!  ALL IS ONE
