08.31: Van Morrison, he of moondancing and G-L-O-R-I-A fame, was born on this day in 1945. What a monumental talent, from his days fronting Them ("Baby Please Don't Go" and the classic "Gloria") to his world-conquering solo work ("Brown-Eyed Girl", "Into The Mystic", and, of course, "Moondance"), Mr. George Ivan Morrison still rocks our world today, selling out shows wherever he goes, showering his fans with awesomeness.

09.01: R.L. Burnside, the 78-year old blues veteran whom every music lover should know, died on this day in 2005. For real, seek out his burly, groovetastic, hill country blues. From his traditional, early work to his rock- and hip-hop-influenced '90s and '00s records, Burnside is a treasure.

Hard Rock Cafe Yankee Stadium, the New York Yankees, and an incredible organization called Beautiful People recently teamed up for an afternoon of sports, food, and good times. Beautiful People envisions "a community sports organization that would enable joy, inspire hope, and fulfill dreams among children with disabilities and their families." Working towards a day when the organization will provide a fully accessible ballpark for kids with special needs, giving them the same chances as other kids, Beautiful People and The Yankees made sure that those kids had a day full of the baseball experience, from hitting a fast ball to rounding the bases, from hot dogs to hamburgers.

08.23: On this day in 1962, John Lennon married Cynthia Powell, his first wife, in Liverpool after learning that she was pregnant with their one and only child, Julian. The couple divorced six years later when Yoko Ono entered the picture, eventually becoming his second wife. And, no, Yoko neither broke up John's first marriage nor The Beatles. All of that happened for reasons way beyond any one person's abilities.

08.23: Keith Moon, The Who's drummer extraordinaire, entered the world on this day in 1946. During his short life (all of 32 years) he became, and is still considered, one of the best drummers in the music world. Just a teen when he joined the band, Moon played on all of The Who's albums from 1965 to 1978, when Who Are You came out two weeks before his untimely death from a drug overdose. The candle that burns twice as bright....

Sure, you've seen Neil Young play with Crazy Horse, his stellar backing band for the last forty years, and you may have seen him play with his old pals Crosby Still & Nash, but have you ever seen him play a solo gig? Okay, hotshot, have you ever seen him play a solo gig as part of Hard Rock's Ambassadors Of Rock Tour? Only if you were lucky enough to be at Hard Rock Calling last year in London's Hyde Park, when Mr. Young busted out The Beatles "A Day In The Life" while Sir Paul McCartney backed him up on vocals. Yeah, it was pretty superb.

Well, now you've got another chance to catch Neil Young, as he joins Ambassadors Of Rock, Hard Rock's global concert series featuring top artists and bands, at Hard Rock Live Hollywood, FL, on Sept. 23 for what is sure to be a sold-out show, full of classics, seldom-heard B-sides, and a smattering of covers done only the way Uncle Neil can. That is, awesomely.

08.16: On this day in 1958, the face of pop culture ushered in one of its more flamboyant icons, when Madonna Louise Ciccone was born in Bay City, Michigan. If you don't know who that is, then you really don't know much about the last 25 years of popular music and culture. Not that that's a bad thing, just that you must've had your head in the sand or something.

08.16: On this day in 1962, The Beatles went a different direction, ousting then-drummer Pete Best in favor of one Ringo Starr, which proved to be the beginning of a beautiful relationship. They had a couple of hits together.

Rock stalwarts Hoobastank recently filled Hard Rock Cafe Bali and Hard Rock Cafe Jakarta with a thousand of their closest Balinese and Jakartan fans for two intimate acoustic sets. Best known for their 2004 hit "The Reason," Hoobastank rocked the stage with their high energy and extensive set list. From "Crawling In The Dark" to "Running Away," from "If I Were You" to "Inside You," the crowd sang along, screamed along, and some, the die hards, even cried along, swept up the moment. It happens. Believe us, we've been there with plenty a band.
