07.26: On this day in 1943, Mick Jagger was born. Oh, Mick, how we love thee. Let us count the ways. First, your lips look like they could end the world. Second, your strut isn't made like other struts. It's a thing of beauty, to be beheld and studied and worked into one's own repertoire (if at all possible). Thirdly, your embrace of the blues and subsequent working of it, along with a little help from your mates, into your music, is an amazing thing to hear. For reals, the Rolling Stones first hit single was a cover of Willie Dixon's "Little Red Rooster", and that is one badass blues song. Fourthly, your wearing of tights in your stage shows in the '80s couldn't have been done by anyone but you. Sure, we look back on them now and chuckle, but, man, you pulled it off. Fifthly….well, you get the point. There probably isn't anything we don't love about Mick (except for his role as one of the baddies in the Emilio Estevez-starring movie Freejack; horrible with a capital HORR), and we are thankful he's shared his life with us. Happy birthday, Mick!

The Downtown Denver Partnership’s Volunteer Partners of the Year are selected on the basis of their civic leadership and contributions to both the Partnership and Downtown Denver. In that tradition, John Lindsay, a sales manager for Hard Rock Cafe Denver was recently recognized for his work. We just wanted to take a minute to thank John for embodying Hard Rock's philanthropic philosophy and for being such a great guy.

Matlock comes to Hard Rock International with a broad range of experience across a spectrum of disciplines, from marketing and sales to software development. Most recently, Matlock was Marketing Director, Global Events Business Management for Microsoft, where she acted as a business and brand steward for the TechEd & Tech Days brands. During her time at Microsoft, Matlock also served as a brand evangelist, responsible for building a brand advocate framework through customer engagement, in-person and online events and product community innovation programs.

Prior to Microsoft, Matlock was the co-founder of Software Company, focused on creating social media platforms for the entertainment industry.  She also worked at XOS Technologies, where she oversaw two departments: XOS Community and CollegeSportsDirect.com. In addition, while at XOS Technologies she delivered a new Web 2.0 private-label social networking product for Electronic Arts’ EASPORTS division: EASPORTSWorld.com, which integrated Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, NCAA Football 08, Madden NFL 08 and FIFA08 game features to the online social media experience.

Hard Rock Hotel Orlando has been recognized by Fodor's Travel as having one of the ten best hotel pools in the U.S. This distinction has earned the hotel a Fodor's Choice Gold 2010 award and recognizes Hard Rock's philosophy of blending rock music into one-of-a-kind guest experiences.

Fodor's says the pool at Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando is "perfect for large multi-generation family trips" and singled out its "underwater sound system, weekly poolside movie screenings under the stars and private cabanas."

"We believe in creating authentic experiences that rock for our guests," says General Manager Carlton Hudson. "Our pool encompasses the vibe and spirit that exists throughout the hotel and in all Hard Rock Hotels around the world."

From ping-pong tournaments to hula-hoop contests and arts and crafts, the swimming pool area of the Hard Rock Hotel offers fun for the whole family. The centerpiece is the 12,000 square foot pool complete with a sand beach, two hot tubs, a sand volleyball court, interactive fountains and play area for the children, plus a 260-foot pool slide. Not only does rock music fill the air, but the pool also features an underwater sound system. Live music or a DJ are featured poolside on select nights.

All hotel guests receive free Universal Express access and simply show their valid hotel room key card to skip the regular lines at most rides and attractions in both Universal Studios and Universal'sIslands of Adventure. On-site hotel guests also receive early park admission for select rides and attractions at Islands of Adventure one hour prior to park opening every day of the week.

Hard Rock Hotel Orlando is one of three on-site hotels at Universal Orlando Resort. It is connected by a scenic waterway to its sister on-site hotels Loews Portofino Bay Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort, as well as Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk.

Hard Rock's newest addition to the family is now officially open for business: Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood On Hollywood Boulevard. Yeah, the name's a mouthful, but it's an amazing place, and it is totally going to rock Hollywood. Located at the Hollywood & Highland Center, beside the world-famous Kodak Theater, and just steps away from Grauman’s Chinese Theater and Hollywood’s starry Walk of Fame, the 20,000-square-foot cafe includes spacious seating, a live music area, a vibrant bar and two Rock Shops featuring Hard Rock’s limited-edition merchandise.

We just wanted to let everyone know and to share this great staff photo. We're psyched, they're psyched, and you'll be psyched, too, once you step foot into Hard Rock's latest 21st century Cafe. It is awesome. We'll see you there!

07.19: Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler filed a lawsuit against the band on this day in 1991, claiming the other members of the group forced him to use heroin and made him quit the band when he tried to quit the smack. The lawsuit was settled out of court the following year for a reported $2.5 million. Really? They forced him to use heroin? They sat on him, strapped him down, held him as they tied up his arm, found a vein, and inserted the needle? Now, we know those boys were pretty crazy back in the day, we've watched VH1's Behind The Music, but this is just too crazy. All the guys in the band had habits, for sure, but maybe Steve's was just a little bit beyond what they were used to, went a little too far and left no room for him to stop when the other guys decided to stop. Or maybe the other guys forced drugs on him, so that they could have a reason to fire him. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense, especially when you see Steven these days, pimping his drug-addled life on Celebrity Rehab.

Ringo Starr, World Hunger Year, and the Seminole Tribe of Florida came together at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, Florida, in support of Yele Haiti, a grassroots beneficiary of our charity partner World Hunger Year. Hard Rock Cafes nationwide sold bracelets and held “Crank It Up” events nationwide to raise the funds that led to this donation made on behalf of the Seminole Tribe of Florida. In a few short days, we’re bringing you the latest installment in our ongoing series entitled, “Blowing Your Mind through Incredible Rock History in a Restaurant/Bar Setting”. A brand-spanking new Hard Rock Cafe is opening in Hollywood, California, right on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame. Needless to say, we knew that we had to load this cafe down with some true treasures from our secret vault of rock artifacts. Let’s take a look at a couple pieces of history we’re gracing Hollywood with…

If you’ve paid any attention to rock music over the last 40 years, you’ve seen these pants. They were such a huge part of Jim Morrison’s life; they may as well have been a second skin. The Lizard King wore these bad-boys constantly, but it was the famous Doors gig at the Hollywood Bowl that really cemented the iconic image of Jim as Adonis in leather pants. It’s a look that’s still imitated over 40 years later, but no one has come close capturing the raw mystery and sexuality of Jim Morrison – try as they might. As frontman for The Doors, Morrison did much more than just write and sing – he really invented the mythology of the modern rock star. And it wasn’t an accident. It’s easy to dismiss Jim as a trite and self-important poet who got lucky, but what he really accomplished was a manipulation of image and perception. There’s much more of a direct connection between Jim Morrison and someone like Lady Gaga than between Jim and the pale imitators who are so often compared to him. Jim looked to challenge the audience down to its core beliefs. And he did it very successfully in these badass leather pants. Witness:
