Santa Monica-based King Baby Studio offers handcrafted pieces that unite chunky sterling silver with precious stones and leather. Mitchell Binder’s creations are bold and substantial, featuring edgy motifs, such as skulls and daggers, for the King Baby line and slightly scaled down feminine motifs, such as roses and crowned hearts, for the Queen Baby’s out there. Hooters Girls from the Hooters restaurant at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood, FL, will be going to great lengths to help raise money for breast cancer research. Hooters will showcase girls Teeter-Tottering in a 12-hour marathon to raise much needed money for the Kelly Jo Dowd Fund for Breast Cancer Research. Donations for this event have already begun to take place at this Hooters location.

Kelly Jo Dowd was one of the original Hooters Girls, who graced the cover of the 1995 Hooters Calendar and worked her way up the Hooters ranks to manager of the location in Palm Harbor, Florida. In 2002, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and ultimately lost her battle with cancer on May 24th, 2007. Her story received national attention when ESPN covered her then 13-year-old daughter, Dakoda Dowd, playing in an LPGA event to fulfill her mother's wish.

For the forth consecutive year, Hooters Girls across the country will be raising money for the cause through local fundraising efforts including the sale of pink Hooters Girl uniform cutouts at the restaurants during the entire month of May. A check will be presented to the V Foundation in Miami during the Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant on June 20th to further fund the Kelly Jo Dowd Breast Cancer Research Grant.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi donated 636 sets of linens to local organizations throughout the Mississippi Gulf Coast on Friday in support of Hard Rock's philanthropic motto "Take Time to Be Kind." Five organizations will benefit from these linens which include The Salvation Army, Back Bay Mission, Humane Society of South Mississippi, Homes of Grace, and Women’s Center for Non Violence.

"Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Biloxi’s heart rocks!” said Major Will Cundiff of the Salvation Army. “You will never know how much this helps, we truly appreciate this."

The linen donation came about when Hard Rock Biloxi received new linens for their guest rooms. Instead of throwing away the current stock, which is in pristine condition, the decision was made to give back. Said Duncan McKenzie, President and General Manager of Hard Rock Biloxi, “We are always looking for ways that we can help, and when this opportunity arose we thought it would be the perfect way to Take Time to Be Kind and serve our community organizations."

Proceeds from the sale of special limited-edition 2009 Hard Rock PINKTOBER merchandise will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and other local breast cancer related charities, with 75% of the retail price of each pin and 15% of the retail price of each t-shirt, key chain, nightshirt and vest sold going directly to the cause.

Party for Pink
Hard Rock’s 2009 PINKTOBER initiative will also feature live music events at Hard Rock locations worldwide. Past and present program supporters include Melissa Etheridge and The Bangles.

These events highlight iconic and emerging artists throughout the month to raise additional dollars for this worthy cause. Last year, artists supporting the cause included Melissa Etheridge, Ne-Yo, Estelle, Sheryl Crow, Melanie C., Chaka Khan, Emerson Hart, Amy Kuney and Charlotte Sometimes. The 2009 Hard Rock PINKTOBER artist lineup will be announced in September 2009 on www.hardrock.com. All events will benefit breast cancer research and awareness organizations.

Sadly, longtime music industry veteran Don Bernstine passed away April 19, at his home in Oviedo, Florida, at the age of 53.

As the self-described "guy with the coolest job in the world," Don began his career as Director of Marketing and Promotion for the rock band Deep Purple, a post that lasted more than a decade. Don worked closely with the band and oversaw several world tours and record launches, resulting in their platinum and gold status. In addition to his many years with Deep Purple, Don's enduring career in the music business also included PolyGram Records, WYSP-FM in Philadelphia and LiBow Enterprises.

Don was best known for his leadership of Memorabilia Acquisitions for Hard Rock International, where he spent the past six years, surrounded by his favorite relics of rock music lore. His expertise in the history of rock's evolution, his thorough understanding of the industry's inner workings and his passion for the music all combined to play a key role in his tremendous success throughout the years. Throughout his career, Don traveled the globe and cultivated friendships with some of the world's top legendary and contemporary musicians, from Paul Stanley of KISS to Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, to Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe, to Duff McKagan and Slash of Velvet Revolver.

Throughout his life, Don resided in several cities, including Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York and London, and in 2003, he relocated to Orlando, FL. Don is survived by his mother, two brothers, sister, six nieces and nephews, Chester his cat, and his beloved dogs Sydney, Dym, and Panda.

Hard Rock International also issued the following statement, "We are extremely saddened by the recent passing of Don Bernstine. Don was a true Hard Rocker, who helped to create so many historic moments and wonderful memories for everyone at Hard Rock, and he will be missed dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with Don's family and friends during this difficult time."

Hard Rock will also be creating a limited-edition pin in memory of Don Bernstine, which will be available on www.HardRock.com, with proceeds benefitting the Best Friends Animal Society, a nonprofit, membership organization building no-kill programs and partnerships that will bring about a day when there are no more homeless pets.
