Hard Rock Melbourne Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Most Guitars Playing Simultaneously
Melbourne, AUSTRALIA, October 18, 2005
Hard Rock Cafe Melbourne is celebrating its 10th anniversary in October by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for a "Guitar-A-Thon," the largest assembly of guitarists simultaneously playing one song. Hard Rock Cafe is seeking 2000 participants to assist in this venture as they lick the existing record of 1322 (set in Vancouver, Canada in 1994) by having the crowd play Deep Purple's classic song Smoke on the Water. The attempt will also serve as a charity event to raise money for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Hard Rocks record-breaking event will be held on Saturday, October 29 at the Museum Plaza. In addition to breaking the world record, remaining true to Hard Rocks core principles and philanthropic endeavors, all proceeds raised from a $5 entry fee will be donated to the Kids Music Therapy program at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
With the goal of a $10,000 donation, Hard Rock asks that all guitar fans, young and old, amateur or professional, get involved! Each guitarist who participates will be entered into a drawing for great prizes, including brand new guitar amps, and other giveaways throughout the day.
Entrants must register on the day of the event at 9 a.m. and will receive an official registration certificate. All forms of guitars, to be supplied by the participants, are welcome for use. Each performer will be required to play the song acoustically for a continuous five minutes, simultaneously with the other guitarists.
Event sponsors include local radio station Gold 104.3, Billy Hyde's, Pepsi, CD Online and Penfold Buscombe.

Limited Edition Collectable Hard Rock Pin To Benefit Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation
Orlando, Fla., September 26, 2005
– Hard Rock International has joined forces with music icon Melissa Etheridge in an effort to raise money to aid in the fight against breast cancer. Through the proceeds of a special collector's edition Hard Rock
Breast Cancer Awareness Pin
, Hard Rock will donate 100% of net profits to the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation.
Beginning October 1, this unique and symbolic pin will be available in select Hard Rock International properties worldwide, including Cafes, Hotels, and Casinos, and on
www.hardrock.com
for $11. The pin features a pink ribbon around the neck of the guitar, and is one of many pins that Hard Rock offers. This is the sixth year that Hard Rock has supported
breast cancer awareness
programs, and the first partnership with a rock legend and breast cancer survivor.
"Having gone through my own personal journey with breast cancer I am honored to be a part of Hard Rock International's initiative to raise funds and awareness for the cause,"
said Melissa Etheridge.
"We need to do everything in our power to eradicate this disease which affects millions of women and families around the world and I am grateful that Hard Rock International has chosen me to help them in their endeavor."
Etheridge has recorded eight albums over the course of her career. She has won the Grammy ® Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance – for the songs "Ain't It Heavy" in 1992 and "Come to My Window" in 1994. In 1996, she was honored with the prestigious ASCAP "Songwriter of the Year" award. In October 2004, Etheridge was diagnosed with breast cancer and has become a passionate advocate to eradicate the disease. At the 2005 Grammy ® Awards, she made a return to the stage and performed a tribute to Janis Joplin. Etheridge was praised for her performance, which was considered one of the highlights of the show. The Kansas-born singer/songwriter has sold more than 30 million records and has a greatest hits collection entitled Greatest Hits The Road Less Traveled, due to release October 4th.
"Hard Rock International was built upon rock music, partnerships with amazing artists, great food and its support of philanthropic causes,"
said Sean Dee, Chief Marketing Officer, Hard Rock International.
"We are honored to join Melissa Etheridge, one of the most influential artists of our time, in funding research for the fight against breast cancer."

Steven Van Zandt Launches Five Concert Series at Hard Rock Venues
Orlando, Fla., October 10, 2005
– When Steven Van Zandt's syndicated radio show, Little Steven's Underground Garage, premiered in 2001, Hard Rock International was the title sponsor, helping to introduce eager fans to the best new garage rock music on the planet. Four years later, with the Underground Garage in 197 markets and more than one million listeners tuning in each week, Little Steven and Hard Rock International announce a new partnership that extends far beyond radio.
Renegade Nation, parent company to Little Steven's Underground Garage and Van Zandt's many other media ventures, has embarked on a new partnership with Hard Rock International that kicks off with five concert events in the next year at different Hard Rock locations.
"The relationship between Renegade Nation and Hard Rock is very synergistic,"
said Jean Beauvoir, Renegade Nation CEO.
"We're matching the coolest venues with the coolest music and live events. It’s really going to be something."
The first event, Little Steven's Underground Garage Halloween A Go-Go, taking place at the new Hard Rock in Times Square on Friday, October 28th sold out in just three days. The show will mark the final East Coast performance from Rocket from the Crypt (RFTC), a punk band hailed as
"rock 'n' roll's ambassadors of good will,"
the last ever performance of Gluecifer, the famed
"Norwegian monsters of rock,"
and several of the hottest young garage bands including the Boss Martians. With the history-making lineup and Garage Girls A Go-Go to entertain the crowd, the event will be a celebrated start to the new Hard Rock/LSUG partnership.
"Hard Rock was founded on spreading the culture of rock 'n' roll and this partnership with Little Steven and Renegade Nation helps to continue this vision,"
said Sean Dee, Chief Marketing Officer, Hard Rock International.
"By sponsoring the best live concerts from both world-famous bands and up-and-coming acts, like those featured by Little Steven’s Underground Garage, we provide our fans with great music as we return to our roots and reclaim our live music connection."
The partnership will include future projects surrounding Van Zandt's burgeoning record label, Wicked Cool Records, and the Underground Garage merchandising division, Renegade Swag.
About Renegade Nation
Aside from his roles as musician and actor, Steven Van Zandt acts as Chairman of parent company, Renegade Nation. A full-service media and entertainment firm, Renegade encompasses the Underground Garage radio show, Renegade Circus live event production, Wicked Cool Records, and numerous upcoming film and television projects.
